Caring, Friendly, Considerate, Approachable, Professional
Our Mother was treated just as we would have treated her at home if we had been able to continue her care. She was always kept clean, when help was needed it was given immediately. We are grateful that in our Mother’s final months she was happy and contented. Respect and level of care was wonderful.

Committed caring staff
My father was cared for at Howard Lodge for the last year of his life, and we were always happy with all that was done for him. There were daily activities for those who wanted to join in and conversation with staff for those who would rather sit out. The planned rebuild will improve the quality of the accommodation, but quality of staff, both British and from overseas was always very good. A concern on one occasion was swiftly and satisfactorily dealt with by the manager.
Respite and vulnerable elderly care
My 91 year old mother recently needed respite care. She was always very anti care homes, but the kind, welcoming attention given to her made her feel safe and happy to stay here. All staff treated patients – of all degree of need, with quiet gentle attention. There are three lounges in which patients can sit which are gently, but not rigidly segregated depending on the patients’ condition and need. Whilst the food is re heated frozen, it always smelt delicious, and my mother always enjoyed it.
Very caring staff and environment
Our mother had dementia and was cared for extremely well. We would visit at any time of day and would always find her happy, clean and well-fed. The staff were superb. They would always ring and let us know if mum had had even the smallest of problems. Our mum died in the home and during her last few days we, her daughters, were treated with great kindness and their care of mum in her last few days was extraordinary – no task was too much. I would highly recommend the home.
I have a 90 year old widowed mother who has advanced dementia and alzheimers, for her to continue to live on her own was impossible. I initially incorrectly placed her into a nursing home that was totally wrong and upsetting for her – needing to resolve the situation immediately I spoke to the management of Dudbrook Hall and that was literally when my problems vanished. They made it possible for an instant move and they have all been caring, integrious and professional always – I recommend them.
Well run with friendly staff
Well managed home – no reservations about the level of care there. My father has early onset of dementia, but his is really happy with the way he is looked after. The management team have my complete trust.
I have found the staff and level of care exemplary and if other homes were run to this standard it would be a good example for them to follow

You and your staff did such a wonderful, professional caring job during the time he was at Howard Lodge often in difficult circumstances. Your support to me as well as him is something that I shall be eternally grateful for. I felt that my visits to Brian were enhanced by contact with you all and I greatly admire you & your staff. They lightened my day.
Thank you for the care and attention you all gave to my mum. I am so grateful that she passed away at Howard Lodge which was her home and where I believe she was happy and very well cared for. Thank you for helping mum to look attractive in her clothes and jewellery whilst she was in your care. I appreciate all that you have done for my mum.
I especially write now to thank you and all the staff who have cared for Derek whilst resident at Dudbrook Hall. As with so many of the residents, many of you were able to reach Derek and bring the most cheeky, enchanting smile to his face. When seeking care for Derek I came to Dudbrook Hall upon recommendation from the family of one of our residents in Abbey field. I shall always be grateful to them as Dudbrook Hall has been for Derek all the things they said it would be.
The staff always caring, cheerful and helpful, a warm atmosphere within the home, no nasty smells and residents as contented as they could be – so Thank You.
I am writing to thank you and your staff for the consideration and care which they gave to my wife from the moment she was allowed to come to Howard Lodge until the time she left us all. Obtaining her freedom to move was an uphill task and I and all her friends and family are grateful to you for your advice and for your helpful co-operation to making that happen. Once arrived, the difference in the standard of care was so noticeable and the effect upon my wife so obvious. Myself family and friends all saw how she started again to respond and how she smiled and tried to speak.
Daughter of a resident at Howard Lodge Care Centre
I would also like to say that we have been very impressed by the care provided to my mum since she joined the home on Thursday 9th July and the transition from her previous home has been very smooth and better that we could have hoped for. Please can you pass this message onto the staff and management as we appreciate everything they are doing for mum.
Daughter of Resident at Howard Lodge Care Centre
I wanted to write to express my sincerest appreciation on behalf of myself and all the family for the wonderful care, support and yes, love all your staff gave to my mum and all of us while she was with you at Howard Lodge. The care and kindness shown was second to none. I just wish mum could have had longer with you all as she was so at ease – a condition she had not experienced for some time.
I would like to thank you, the nurses and all the carers both day and night staff for their empathy and devotion towards mum. Howard Lodge Care Centre should be the example that other nursing homes aspire to.”

Care Received by Albert
We would like to express our sincere thanks to all the carers on Poppy Hamlet for looking after Albert so well during his stay at Howard Lodge.
Both day and night time carers look after albert with loving care and indeed they looked after us as well, when needed.
We all agree that you should be very proud of them and because of them we would have no hesitation in recommending Howard Lodge to others.
Gill Thomas – Daughter of resident
I am writing to you in praise of Howard Lodge and in particular of Barbara, Bernie and Bluebell Hamlet. I cannot speak highly enough of their care and kindness to my mum – the late Hilda Hall, during her 4 years at Howard Lodge. Your organisation is very special and those who tended to mum such as Barbara on my mum’s last day, and Bernie in particular as Mum’s key worker and her colleagues were indeed wonderful. Nothing would be adequate but thanks are needed to be expressed.
I first met Claire when she kindly showed me around as Mums needs meant that during our time of crisis with my dad, mum needed a place of Care and Safety. Claire had an exceptional manner which helped us to cope and gave us strength during a very sad time. This was in the old building. Even though the old building was far from perfect, staff and managers did everything possible to provide a family setting, love and care that mum needed.
Once in the New Howard Lodge, through your excellent care and organization, mum soon settled and had a lovely bright room with purpose built facilities which helped her very much. The atmosphere for visitors is always warm and friendly – whatever the circumstances and despite the fact that Howard Lodge has residents, some of whom have great needs. The calmness and happiness is ever present. I would like to thank you for this.
I would like to thank you for the freedom you offer families such as mine to come and go as we wish or need – because that freedom helps to make Howard Lodge feel like family and Mum’s home. Not once did I ever feel unwelcome, or a nuisance or in the way – even on the day that Mum passed away. Barbara made me her priority and Ash my husband, as we hurried to Howard Lodger arriving just after mum had passed away. Barbara must have been sad and tired out from the unexpected turn of events and supporting and managing the situation as must the staff have been – but the welcome, the calm, the polite respectfulness was still there – even at such a time – what a mark of incredible people. Thank you. Please thank your staff for the dignity that they gave my mum during her last few days and for always treating her with respect and kindness.
I hope you go on to become one of the shining examples for the nation of how to care for the elderly and vulnerable. When someone has dementia, the example that you gave from the top to the bottom, or the bottom to the top was outstanding in my view and that of my husband and daughter.
Mum is at peace now and she would not have wanted to go on suffering. On behalf of my mum, myself and my loved ones ‘Thank You’
