Since 1991, St Michaels Homes has provided compassionate, person-centred care in a peaceful setting where every resident is known, valued and supported.
At St Michaels Homes, we believe later life should be filled with warmth, dignity and meaningful connection.
St Michaels Homes Ltd comprises two care homes, Howard Lodge and Dudbrook House, which sit adjacent to one another and both care for elderly residents. Nestled in beautiful, park-like gardens in Kelvedon Common on the outskirts of Brentwood, our homes are surrounded by stunning Essex countryside, with abundant wildlife – including deer – regular visitors to our grounds.
We are a family-run company, established in 1991 by the late Sheila Watson, alongside her children and current directors, Claire and Sean Watson. Sheila trained as a registered nurse and midwife, going on to spend 25 years in midwifery followed by 5 years as a health advisor to the elderly, and held a diploma in gerontology. Her vision and experience continue to shape our approach to care from the top down – reflected today in the way every member of staff cares for our residents.
Sheila’s legacy lives on in every corner of St Michaels Homes, and we remain committed to the values of compassion, dignity and family she instilled from the very beginning.
Loneliness and feeling like a burden in older age is a great and growing scourge of our society. You won’t find lonely people in our care homes — you’ll find support, companionship, and strong bonds of friendship.
